This software was developed to calculate cost of production,
net income, and breakeven for orchid farms with various
sizes of operations. All results are dependent upon the initial
production coefficients and the user's data entered into the outlined text boxes.
The various results are only as accurate as information entered by the users.
This research was funded by USDA CSREES Alaska Native-Serving and Native Hawaiian-Serving Institutions Education Grants Program
and conducted by the University of Hawaii at Hilo College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Natural Resource Management.
In the percentage of potted orchids, enter how much of your business consists of potted orchids.
Please enter average monthly bill including electricity, phone, internet, cell, and other utilities.
Enter the monthly administration expenses, including management, secretary, and office help.
Other overhead includes all office costs: office supplies, computer, etc. per month.
Enter hourly wages in dollars.
Enter the cost of benefits as a percentage of the hourly wages, 0–100.
Enter the interest rate you pay on financing equipment.
In the shadehouse and greenhouse utilization boxes, enter the percentage of your structures that are used to grow potted orchids.
If you do not have a shadehouse or greenhouse, enter zero.
For each orchid species, enter the number of pots you intend to produce per year.
For each item in the fixed cost, enter quantities and price for each item.
Change the life expectancy according to your depreciation schedule.
Enter zero if the item is already depreciated.
